The Colorectal Cancer (Powered by 23andMe Research) report is intended to provide an estimate of the likelihood of developing this common type of cancer, based on your genetics. Genetic results are available for individuals who are determined to have predominantly European or Hispanic/Latino ancestry. However, genetic results are not available for individuals who are determined to have other genetic ancestries. These include people whose genetic ancestry is predominantly:
- Sub-Saharan African/African American
- East/Southeast Asian
- South Asian
- Northern African/Central & Western Asian
To explain, this report is based on a statistical model developed by 23andMe that estimates the likelihood of developing colorectal cancer. This model takes into account your genetic variants at many genetic markers, along with your genetic ancestry and the birth sex you reported in your account settings. To calculate this estimate, we used data from 23andMe customers who have consented to participate in research.
However, we do not have enough data from 23andMe research participants of certain ancestries to create a genetic prediction for them that meets our scientific standards at this time. This means genetic results are not available for these groups.

This information is available to all customers. Regardless of ancestry, everyone has a chance of developing colorectal cancer and can benefit from taking steps like getting screened when your doctor recommends it, eating less red meat, and getting regular physical activity.
